More Edgar Allan Poe – and more Sydney Sweeney – will head to our screens soon. According to Deadline, A24 and Picturestart are currently working on a new feature adaptation of Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. Sweeney is reportedly in talks to lead the film.

Poe’s original short story follows a Prince Prospero, who attempts to avoid a plague (known as the Red Death) by hiding in his abbey. The upcoming feature will explore a new version of the tale, written and directed by Charlie Polinger.

Though known for her work in TV series like Euphoria and The White Lotus and the rom-com Anyone But You, Sweeney recently made a splash in the horror genre with the NEON flick Immaculate. She’s also set to star in the upcoming Paul Feig thriller The Housemaid opposite Amanda Seyfried.

The Masque of the Red Death previously received a film adaptation back in 1964, starring Vincent Price. The story also helped inspire Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series The Fall of the House of Usher, which draws on a number of Poe’s short stories.

Deadline reports the new take on Poe’s story will shoot later this year. A24 will handle the domestic distribution.

For now, that’s all we know about this one. So, check back to THS for more updates.
