Mobile Suit Gundam is perhaps one of the most famous anime franchises in the world. There are many reasons why. The politics of each series, the intriguing and well-developed characters, but it’s really not hard to see the main reason why they’re so popular. It’s the giant robots. Giant robots doing battle against each other will always draw a huge crowd. However, Gundam is especially well-known for some fantastic giant robot battles.

Thus, it explains why this latest news of a new mainline Mobile Suit Gundam series is drawing so much attention. Especially when that new series is going to start with a feature-length anime film with the rather large mouthful of a title: Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-. You can thus also understand why GKIDS went to such great lengths to acquire it.

You can already tell that there’s going to be a lot of urban destruction in this Gundam film.

GKIDS is proud to announce that they have acquired the NA theatrical release rights for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-. This upcoming feature-length anime film will mark the start of a brand new mainline Gundam anime series. It will in fact be the second mainline series in a row to feature a female main character after Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Not only that, but it will also be the first time that studio khara (of Evangelion anime films fame) and studio Sunrise will jointly collaborate on a Gundam project.

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- will also feature Kazuya Tsurumaki (EVANGELION, FLCL) as the director, with Yoji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Bungo Stray Dogs, FLCL) and Hideaki Anno (EVANGELION) as the screenwriters, Take (Katanagatari, Zaregoto, Pokemon Series) as character designer, and Ikuto Yamashita (EVANGELION Series, Shin Kamen Rider) as the mechanical designer. Truly, there are a lot of records breaking here once we finally get to see this anime film.

Fortunately, we won’t have that long to wait. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- will make its NA debut on February 28, 2025. This is just over a month after the film’s Japanese debut on January 17, 2024; so it’s a pretty quick overseas trip for this Gundam anime film. Alas, tickets are not yet available, but you can check Fandango for when they do become available. Alas, we also don’t know when the anime will make its debut. We will have to wait for Sunrise and/or khara to give us that info at a later date. Check back in with GKIDS or Gundam Info for more news as they release it.

Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle.

Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji. Now their world is about to enter a new era.
