The previous star of Aquaman, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Justice League, and more, Jason Momoa is coming back to DC for another rodeo, this time as Lobo. He’ll play the antihero in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This news doesn’t come as a surprise to people who have been involved with the process of James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over DC Studios. He’s been vocal about his interest in the role in the past, and Gunn has shown an interest in Momoa returning to the fold. Here’s what Momoa had to say in a comment on Instagram about the role.

“So Lobo was…I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,”

He confirmed the role with a simple comment, “They called.”

Who Is Lobo And What Does He Have To Do With Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow?

Lobo is about as dictionary definition as it comes for the term antihero. He’s known for his violent and irreverent personality, switching between helping and going against some of your favorite DC superheroes. He comes from the planet Czarnia and possesses superhuman strength, regenerative abilities, and is all but unkillable. He was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in 1983. He’s usually portrayed as a bounty hunter who enjoys sowing chaos and destruction.

As for how he fits into the narrative for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the plot details for that film are still a bit murky. We know that House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock is playing the titular character and Craig Gillespie is directing a script from Ana Noguiera. Matthias Schoenaerts is on board as the villain Krem of the Yellow HIll. We’ll likely get to know more about the film when filming starts on January 13th, 2025. The project is based on the 2022 Tom King comic book run with the same name.

We’ll keep you updated on Lobo and other DC news as we get it.
