Much of where Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…” takes place in is during a summer festival. However, there’s not many chances for our main characters to enjoy the fesitivities, it seems. Between teenage angst about romance and a lost kid, this festival seems more like a festival of worries than anything else.
Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…”: Details
Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…” is the 12th and final episode (you can read my reviews for Ep. 1, Ep. 2, Ep. 3, Ep. 4, Ep. 5, Ep. 6, Ep. 7, Ep. 8, Ep. 9, Ep. 10, and Ep. 11 here) of the first cours of the very first season of this romantic comedy and sports anime. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Kouji Miura (I Love You, My Teacher). Telecom Animation Film (Tower of God, Shenmue: The Animation, Astro Note) and TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin the Third, Anpanman) are both responsible for the anime, with them doing the animation, and production and planning, respectively. Netflix is the company licensing this anime for its global release.
Production Cast
Keiko Oyamada is the director behind Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…”, with Yuka Yamato and Yūichirō Yano both as the storyboarders. As for Blue Box as a whole: Yūichirō Yano is the director behind the anime. Yūko Kakihara is the writer, Miho Tanino as the character designer, and with Takashi Ohmama responsible for composing the music.
Speaking of music: the opening theme song for Blue Box is “Same Blue” by Official Hige Dandism. Meanwhile, “Teenage Blue” (ティーンエイジブルー) by Eve is the ending theme song for the same.

Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…” features the voices of Shōya Chiba as Taiki Inomata, Reina Ueda as Chinatsu Kano, Chiaki Kobayashi as Kyo Kasahara, and Akari Kitō as Hina Chōno. Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…”: Synopsis
Alas, Blue Box‘s first cours has only recently ended its run. In fact, Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…” only just made its debut a week ago as of this writing. Thus, I will present to you Netflix’s official synopsis for this cours finale episode instead of a spoiler-filled plot summary. You can read that synopsis below:
Taiki attends the fireworks festival with Hina and is surprised by her new look and shyness. Later, he unexpectedly bumps into Chinatsu with a lost child.
Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…”: The Good
After 12 episodes’ worth of these reviews, it should be clear by now that I’m a huge fan of the story of Blue Box, which includes Ep. 12 “Girls…”. It’s all because Kouji Miura is such a great writer, especially when it comes to romantic comedies/dramedies like this one. This episode in particular hits those feels hard. It has both adorable moments with a lost kid that will make you squeal, and a hefty dose of teenage romance angst that will make you grimace. All involving the antics of a love triangle in which all corners of that triangle are lovable characters. You can already tell that there’s going to be a significant amount of emotional pain incoming for one of the triangle corners.
Fortunately, we do have some happy couples to contrast that. Especially since this episode does finally introduce Karen into the story. Not only is she a delightful character on her own, but her arrival also portends the arrival of the next main character in this romantic dramedy. Who is it, you might ask? Well, fans of the manga might be familiar with a certain pigtail-haired sister of Karen who becomes a very major character in this story. Not only that, but she’s even someone we’ll get to see in the second cours to boot.
Lastly, that story still wouldn’t be nearly as good without the efforts of Telecom Animation Film and TMS Entertainment. Their animators once more deliver an episode with animation quality on par with feature-length anime films. Especially in the lighting department. Seriously, the soft lighting of the festival lights combined with the lighting during the fireworks are just wonderful eye candy to savor.
Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…”: The Bad
Honestly, if you’re only here for sports action, then Blue Box Ep. 12 “Girls…” will be a disappointment for you. There’s very little sports action in this episode, all of it towards the end and there’s not much of it. It’s mostly a romantic dramedy for much of this episode. If you want action, then I might want to suggest that you check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, Kaiju No. 8, DDDD, and/or DAN DA DAN to tide you over until then. Those anime should have more than enough action to tide you over until the second cours of Blue Box makes its debut on January 2, 2025.
Tune back in to THS to find out more about Blue Box and other anime when we do.
