Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 “The Devil’s Castle” clearly demonstrates how to make bots not fun to play against. That secret strategy being to turn them into aimbots, which these bots seem to be. Clearly, Keiichi Sigsawa has a good grasp of video game development to understand this key fact, and turn it into an amazing story.

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 “The Devil’s Castle”: Synopsis

Alas, LLENN doesn’t even get those red lines to warn her this time.

Alas, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II is still an ongoing anime. In fact, Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 “The Devil’s Castle” made its debut 11 days ago as of this writing. Thus, I will present to you Crunchyroll’s official synopsis for this episode instead of a spoiler-filled plot summary. You can read that synopsis below:

LLENN decides to participate in the game to battle Eva of SHINC with all her might. To clear the game, a player must destroy all seven NPCs or take back the gas bombs they stole. LLENN and LPFM members head to the location where the enemy awaits. They encounter SHINC along the way. As they’re about to attack, ZEMAL attacks them first. ZEMAL’s attack proved too much as their “backpack style ammunition carriage system” allowed them to fire rapidly without any breaks, leaving LLENN and LPFM clueless on how to counterattack.

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 “The Devil’s Castle”: The Good

Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 "The Devil's Castle" eye catch
LLENN does look a bit like a tactical Sakura in this outfit, doesn’t she?

Honestly, as amazing as the action of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 “The Devil’s Castle” is, it’s still the story that shines the brightest in this episode. Mostly because that story is why the action is so good. It’s the combination of fluidity and insanity in the story that is what makes the action so satisfying and entertaining to watch. Especially ZEMAL in this episode. When you see a whole bunch of players who know how to best use machine guns, but refuse to use anything but machine guns, the result is a bunch of silly players who are clearly having a blast with this game.

Oh, and the gunplay. Don’t forget about that, since it’s the primary draw of the action in this entire anime, let alone this episode. The sheer level of detail when describing the bots’ loadout alone will tell you that, let alone everything else. Clearly, Keiichi Sigsawa deserves his pen name.

Lastly, the beautiful animation by A-1 Pictures perfectly complements all that story and action. The animation studio demonstrates once more that they were the studio in charge of Sword Art Online, which if you remember, also included the Gun Gale Online arc. The latter of which featured some very smooth gun animation. This episode is no different, and shows their dedication to the craft.

Alas, not even LLENN can dodge what she can’t see.

Alas, if you specifically want bloody action filled with blood and gore, then Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online II Ep. 10 “The Devil’s Castle”. All of the onscreen violence takes place within a video game world that has to adhere to Japan’s Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO). This means all the violence we see is blood-free and partially censored to comply with a suitable age rating. Thus, if you want blood and gore in your anime violence, then might I suggest watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaSolo LevelingKaiju No. 8DDDD, and/or DAN DA DAN? Those anime should have enough blood and gore to satisfy even the most hardcore action junkie.
