If you are a fan of a good dark thriller you are going to want to check out the latest Batman story from DC. This past week DC released Batman: Dark Patterns #1. This story created by Dan Watters and Hayden takes us to the early years of Batman as he deals with a series of sickeningly gruesome murders. Can the Dark Knight get to the bottom of these murders? We don’t know yet but you can check out my thoughts on this comic below.

BATMAN DARK PATTERNS #1

Set during the early years of Batman’s career, Batman: Dark Patterns delves into four mysterious cases as he attempts to cement his place as Gotham City’s protector while the city itself fights back against him. This is the Dark Knight Detective at his most stripped-down core, a man relying on his wits, his skills, and little else as he tackles some of the most twisted mysteries Gotham City and its protector have ever encountered.

Batman: Dark Patterns #1 Is Dark and Disturbing In A Good Way [Non-Spoiler Review]

BATMAN: DARK PATTERNS #1 – CASE 01: WE ARE WOUNDED

This story takes place in Batman’s early years of trying to protect Gotham. This dark story, We Are Wounded, reveals multiple murders that have been committed in a very dark and gruesome way. Because of how each murder was committed, Batman very quickly figured out they were all connected. The more he dug, the closer he got, and we were soon introduced to a new villain who may be one of the worst and deadliest that Batman has ever encountered.

While Dan Watters’ story is one of the best starts to a Batman arc in a long time, the art by Hayden Sherman also helps make this issue stand out. the art is dark and sets the mood throughout the whole comic. It gives you a feeling from the early Batman comic in the 90s. I want to go back to the dark part, you will know what I am talking about when you see the murder scenes and the new villain. Oh yeah, the fight scenes are also done in a way that separates it from the rest of the panels.

If you are a Batman fan and like a dark and gruesome story, Batman: Dark Patterns #1 NAILS it! You get to see the Dark Knight in his early years as he is more like a detective trying to solve crimes. The villain is dark and mysterious and is ready to torture his victims to death. This is one of the darkest Batman arcs to date. Go to your local comic shops now a pick up a copy, you won’t regret it. I can not wait to get deeper into this series.
