Crank the They Might Be Giants – Malcolm in the Middle will return in 2025.
The iconic 2000s sitcom plans to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special tribute: a limited, four-episode revival run over on Disney+. So far, at least three of the original cast members are set to reprise their series roles: Frankie Muniz (Malcolm), Bryan Cranston (Hal), and Jan Kaczmarek (Lois). The story for the limited series will see Malcolm and his daughter drawn into the family’s chaos when his parents demand his presence at their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.
With that premise – and the goal of celebrating the series’ legacy – it seems likely that fans will see a lot more familiar faces pop up from the Malcolm in the Middle days. In addition to the confirmed trio of returning actors, original series creator Linwood Boomer returns as a writer on revival, as well as producing director Ken Kwapis, who will direct all four new episodes.
“Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, President of Disney Branded Television. “Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again. With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”
Malcolm in the Middle garnered wide praise and acclaim from fans and critics alike during its initial series run. The show aired over 150 episodes between 2000 and 2006, earning seven Emmy awards.
