Can’t get enough Wicked? Want to belt out “Defying Gravity” or prove you know about “Popular” in front of the big screen? Well, your time has come. Tickets for the official sing-along showings of Wicked are on sale now!
Universal Pictures announced Christmas Day sing-along screenings will hit more than 1,000 theaters in the US, Canada, and select international markets. These showings will feature on-screen lyrics during the film’s musical numbers. The sing-along screenings will also start with a special introduction from the movie’s stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
Wicked premiered in theaters November 22. Since then, fans far and wide have showed up to watch the film adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical. A massive box office success, the feature has become the highest-grossing Broadway musical film adaptation in domestic box office history – a record previously held by Grease for 46 years.
“The overwhelming response to Wicked has been remarkable,” said Jim Orr, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal Pictures. “These sing-along screenings offer fans a unique opportunity to become part of the story they’ve embraced so enthusiastically. There’s something extraordinarily special about experiencing this beloved musical together as a community, and we’re thrilled to create that opportunity this holiday season.”
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning and Oscar-nominated Erivo as Elphaba, a young woman misunderstood because of her green skin who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman gilded by privilege who has yet to discover her true heart. When the two meet as students, they forge an unlikely but profound friendship. When their lives take different paths, their extraordinary adventures will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
