Spy x Family fans will have definitely noticed that it has been a while since we last saw a new chapter of the manga. In fact, the last time we did was all the way back on October 27, 2024; when Ch. 107 (aka. Mission 107) made its debut on Shonen Jump at Viz Media. Since then, we haven’t heard a peep out of mangaka Tatsuya Endo. That means that for all intents and purpose, the manga went on an unofficial hiatus on that date.
Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your views), there’s now no need for any guessing. Not when Shonen Jump themselves have officially confimed that the hiatus is on, and a lot more besides to boot. It looks like it will be a while before we see anymore new Spy x Family chapters. Not when Tatsuya Endo doesn’t sound like he’s doing so well in the health department.
Spy x Family: Hiatus / Tatsuya Endo Health Status Update Details
The official Shonen Jump Twitter account has just posted an update Tweet on the status of now-official hiatus of Spy x Family. Apparently, the unofficial hiatus was originally set to end on December 9, 2024 with a new chapter of the manga. As you might have noticed: today is Dec. 9, and there is no new chapter today. This is because plans have changed, and Dec. 9 is now the day the manga enters its official hiatus.
Why is this the case, you might ask? Well, it’s in the Tweet itself. It mentions that the hiatus is “due to Endo Tatsuya-sensei’s poor health“. It’s both understandable and not that surprising if you’ve been following Spy x Family since its beginning. Tatsuya Endo has has poor health throughout the entire manga’s history. Even with a biweekly release schedule, the poor guy still has to occasionally take month(s) long breaks in between chapters. All we can do now is wish Tatsuya Endo good luck, and a good rest until he’s ready to work on that next chapter.
Fortunately, that same Tweet does give us a tentative release date for that next chapter. At the end, Shonen Jump reveals that Spy x Family will release a new chapter on December 23, 2024. As of this writing, that’s only two weeks away, so you won’t have long to wait to see if this promise comes true. Cross our fingers here that is the case.
