We’ve already seen Robert Downey Jr. return as Doctor Doom for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Now according to our friends at The Wrap, Chris Evans could see a mainline MCU return for the event film. Their sources say that “Evans will be involved in some capacity, but the extent and exact nature of his role is unknown.”

Evans retired his role as Steve Rogers/Captain America after 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and then made a brief appearance as his former Marvel character Johnny Storm in Deadpool and Wolverine. That role was more of a nod to a previous era of Marvel movies than anything else. That’s not the only Marvel glory days pairing returning for Doomsday, the Russo Brothers are also returning to direct the film and its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday has a release date of May 1st, 2026.

As with Downey Jr.’s return as a different character entirely than Tony Stark, Evans could possibly play a new character, but that’s unknown at this time. Evans has been busy since he ended his MCU tenure starring in films like The Gray Man, Knives Out, Pain Hustlers, Ghosted, and the currently in theaters Red One.

We’ll have to see how this story turns out when we get more information.
