2025 and beyond is shaping up to be one of the most important years for the newly minted DC Studios. They’ve got Superman coming out in July and now we’ve got news from Deadline about another famous comic character. According to them, Daniel Craig is teaming back up with his Queer director Luca Guadagnino for Sgt. Rock at DC Studios. This is Guadagnino’s next project and will come before his work on his reimagining of American Psycho that was announced earlier. The script comes from Justin Kuritzkes.
While there haven’t been any deals officially inked, this is an exciting time for DC and their fans. As for details about the project, there aren’t any at the moment, including which issues of the comic it’ll be based on. The character of Sgt. Franklin John Rock was created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert and first appeared in DC comics in 1959, Our Army At War. He was a WWII soldier who served in the infantry. He got his own comic series in 1977 which ran until 1988. While he doesn’t have any “superhuman” abilities, he’s one of the greatest soldiers ever seen in comics. Some of his accomplishments include taking down a plane with just a submachine gun, and surviving gunshot wounds with the best of them.
Our Take On Daniel Craig At Sgt. Rock For DC Studios
Daniel Craig is no stranger to action roles or even playing elder statesmen, like in the Knives Out flims. He’s got all the chops and then some to play a character like Sgt. Rock. Luca Guadagnino is an accomplished director of his own, but it does seem like a strange fit with comic-book material. Maybe they’ve got a new angle to work from. His recent films include Queer (with Daniel Craig), Challengers, and After The Hunt.
As for DC Studios, this is also a strange choice, as Craig has shown an aversion in recent years to any sort of role that could even smell like James Bond. The new DC Studios also wants to keep consistency throughout their stable of characters with live-action, animation, video games, and more. This would either mean this movie is a one-off, an elseworlds tale, or that Craig is signing on for multiple projects as Rock. We’ll have to see as we get more information about the project.
