If you are a fan of crime dramas and are looking for a new series to watch you are going to want to head over to Prime Video. This week their latest series CROSS was released and it is ready to take you for a ride. Starring Aldis Hodge, Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, and Ryan Eggold; CROSS is based on the characters from James Patterson’s best-selling Alex Cross book series. Thanks to our friends over at Prime Video I was able to take a look at the series and it did not disappoint. You can check out my non-spoiler review below.

CROSS: Season 1

A Washington, D.C. crime drama that follows Alex Cross, a brilliant homicide detective, whose personal struggles threaten to derail his career and life. Based on the worldwide bestselling book series by James Patterson.

Cross Season 1 – Review

Again if you are familiar with any of my reviews you know I like to try to make them short and without any spoilers. As someone who had not read the Alex Cross novels, I did not know what to expect from this crime drama. Well, after diving into a few episodes I got into this series, and loved how it didn’t just drag on. What I mean by that is we got it all during the eight episodes; serial killers, high-profile kidnappings, and a stalker.

The suspense was there for the whole series. From a detective fighting through many emotional struggles; seeing things through the eyes of the serial killer; and how easy it was to manipulate people with money and power, it kept me engrossed in the series the whole time. Oh yeah, I will admit I was also thrown off the path and didn’t see that end coming.

Now I’m not going to say everything is perfect about this series. One thing that I had a problem with is that some scenes as they were dark and I thought hard to see. The other thing is that there are a few unanswered questions that you really wish they touched on.

I thought Aldis Hodge was the perfect fit for Alex Cross. He brought this series together. From his energy to his emotions you felt everything Cross was going through. This is really felt throughout the series, especially when anything involves the memory of his wife and the person who is antagonizing him and his family. Isaiah Mustafa, who played his partner John Sampson had great chemistry but you also have to wonder if that chemistry will continue in season 2 (a little spoiler).

My Final Thoughts

I feel like CROSS is a must-stream. It has everything you want from a crime drama and more. Aldis Hodge’s performance as Alex Cross was top-notch. The supporting cast also did an amazing job. There were a few times some things didn’t seem to work but I feel like that was more on the script than the actors. But if you are looking for a crime drama with good detectives, demented villains, and excellent plot twists then you will want to stream this series.
