The legend of what Christopher Nolan’s next film will be about might end up as more interesting than the film itself. Joining an already stacked cast is Lupita Nyong’o. The new film already has a laundry list of talent including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Matt Damon, and Anne Hatheway. Nolan wrote the script and is directing the project at Universal Pictures. It has a release date of July 17th, 2026.

As for what the film is about, well, that’s unknown. Even the most seasoned of Hollywood scoopers and know-it-alls don’t know what the film is about. Nolan is already a historically secretive filmmaker. Various theories and inklings have been posted about, but so far, none of them have come close to what the film is actually about. Nolan is producing the film alongside his partner Emma Thomas for their Syncopy banner. The movie should start production in the first half of 2025.

Nolan’s journey with Universal Pictures began with the Best Picture-winning Oppenheimer. That movie saw him win his first Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture. It was also a massive success at the box office, drawing in $976 million worldwide. Nyong’o has never worked with Nolan before. She’s coming off the successful A Quiet Place: Day One, which she starred in. She was also a voice star of The Wild Robot for Universal Pictures. That film has grossed almost $300 million at the box office.

She’s an Academy Award winner for her performance in 12 Years A Slave and has also appeared in films like Us, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Black Panther.
