The response to Netflix‘s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has been…interesting. Critics and audiences alike have given this live-action adaptation some decidedly mixed results. On Rotten Tomatoes for example: critics have given this adaptation a 60% over 83 reviews. Even audiences weren’t much better, with 72% over 2500+ ratings. By all measures, this very first season of that live-action adaptation should be a resounding “Meh”.
Amazingly though, this is still an improvement over the last attempt at a live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Those who recall the 2010 attempt by M. Night Shyamalan to have been…not particularly successful. Honestly, The Last Airbender was so bad that it reached a record 5% low on Rotten Tomatoes from critics over 190 reviews. That’s…bad. Even audiences weren’t much better with 30% over 250,000+ ratings. Considering how generous audiences usually are compared to critics, this is downright horrible.
Thus, even the mixed reviews Netflix got for their live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is still a marked improvement over the last attempt. Which means you can now see why Netflix greenlit a second and third season for their adaptation. That means you can also understand why Netflix would want to hype that upcoming second season up, starting with some new additions to the ever-growing cast.
