New features from a galaxy far, far away just got a little closer. Lucasfilm has closed a deal with Simon Kinberg for a trilogy of Star Wars films.
According to Deadline, Kinberg will write and produce episodes 10-12 of the Skywalker saga. However, Disney and Lucasfilm have yet to confirm the nature of Kinberg’s involvement; his projects may end up being a new saga instead.
Kinberg previously teamed with Lucasfilm on Star Wars Rebels, the Emmy-nominated animated series he co-created with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck. He also served as a consultant on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the 2015 JJ Abrams feature which revived the sci-fi franchise on film.
Outside of Star Wars, Kinberg’s previous work includes plenty of blockbuster flicks. He wrote a number of X-Men features, including Days of Future Past, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix, and also produced smash hits like Logan and Deadpool & Wolverine. Beyond X-Men, Kinberg’s producer credits include Academy Award winner The Martian; Agatha Christie mysteries Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, and Haunting in Venice; and TV series like Designated Survivor, Legion, and The Twilight Zone reboot.
So, with more Star Wars on the horizon, where do you want to see the franchise go next? Do you hope Kinberg continues the Skywalker Saga, or creates something new? Let us know in the comments below. Otherwise, check back to THS for more updates.
