A new Scary Movie entry was announced all the way back at CinemaCon 2024 but there’s news that should make anyone that are fans of the old series happy. Deadline is reporting that there’s a new screenplay for the film, it’s shooting for a theatrical release next year, and that the Wayans Brothers are back on board for the film. Here’s what Miramax’s Jonathan Glickman had to say about their return.

“We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

Here’s what Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans had to say.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

The Scary Movie franchise capitalized on the popularity boom of slashers in the 90s from movies like Scream and brought comedy into the mix. They grossed over $800 million at the box office between five movies, with the first film being one of the highest-grossing R-rated horror movies of all-time. There’s no word on if any other actors will return like Anna Faris.
