“Bookworm” from Vertical is now available on demand. This new action, comedy, and adventure film stars Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher. It follows a girl named Mildred who is trying to make money for her and her mother by filming an illusive mythical creature. This gets strange when her father shows up after being away for years attempting to become a magician. They end up on a wild adventure in the wilderness learning about themselves and each other.

A CHAT WITH ELIJAH WOOD

With the release of “Bookworm” I spoke with Elijah Wood, one of the stars of the film. Wood plays Strawn Wise, Mildred’s dad. We talked about the themes of the film that were so personal to writer and director Ant Timpson about being a father and being present in the lives of your kids.

We also talk about his work with Nell Fisher, who plays his daughter. As well as the adventures they had while filming in New Zealand. It was a great conversation that you can check out below!

ABOUT “BOOKWORM”

Bookworm follows 11-year-old Mildred (Nell Fisher) whose life takes a wild turn when her estranged father, Strawn Wise (Elijah Wood), a washed-up Las Vegas illusionist, suddenly reappears. Years ago, after a magical encounter with the once-charming Strawn, Mildred’s mom moved back to New Zealand. Now, a comical mishap leaves Strawn caring for Mildred while her mom is hospitalized.

Their first adventure? Camping to hunt for the mythological Canterbury Panther. As this mismatched duo navigates the wilderness, magic tricks, and an extraordinary quest, hilarity ensues, and they might just find a way to piece their family back together.
