UPDATE: Josh Brolin isn’t playing Richard Dawson’s role after all, he’s playing a producer of the deadly game show that Glen Powell’s character ends up on. The role of the game show host hasn’t been found yet.

Have you ever wanted to see Josh Brolin as a terribly violent game show host? You might get your wish as Brolin has joined Glen Powell in the upcoming adaptation of The Running Man. The news comes as the cast for the Edgar Wright-directed picture takes shape. Brolin is set to play the villain in the film. The original film saw Arnold Schwarzenegger take on Richard Dawson in the same role as Brolin. That movie and this one are based on the Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) book of the same name, where violent game shows will be the norm in the future.

The story centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who participates in a violent reality show called The Running Man to win enough money to revive his gravely ill daughter. The show follows Richards as he is chased by numerous hunters sent to kill him. The rest of the cast includes Katy O’Brian and Daniel Ezra. Wright and Michael Bacall co-wrote the script. It’ll be released in theaters on November 21st, 2025.
