Academy Award winner Halle Berry just locked down her next role. Deadline confirmed today that Berry will join the cast of Crime 101.
The Amazon MGM Studios flick adapts Don Winslow’s short story of the same name. Though plot details of the film remain under wraps, Winslow’s story follows a series of high-level jewel thefts taking place up and down the Pacific coast. Though police link the crimes to Colombian cartels, Detective Lou Lubesnick zeroes in on one perp in particular. The thief in question adheres to “Crime 101” – rules to pull off the perfect heist.
Specifics about Berry’s role also remain unknown at this time. We do know she joins a star-studded cast, which also includes Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan. Pedro Pascal was previously attached to the film, but departed due to scheduling conflicts.
Crime 101 comes from director Bart Layton. Layton received an Emmy nomination for his work on Netflix’s docuseries The Tinder Swindler, as well as critical acclaim for his feature American Animals.
Berry recently starred in and produced the Lionsgate thriller Never Let Go.
Crime 101 begins shooting next month. A release date has not been set. So, check back to THS for more updates.
