Movies like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and other slashers really have certain days locked down. Scream on the other hand, isn’t stuck in one era or one holiday. Scream 7 is in pre-production and Neve Campbell and director Kevin Williamson have announced the release date. The film is coming on February 27th, 2026.
Spyglass Media and Paramount are producing the film. Scream (2022) and Scream VI stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega aren’t returning for the sequel. Barerra was fired from the production after comments she made that were in support of the Palestinian people. Ortega has become increasingly busy with her schedule and can’t commit to the film. That leaves returning star Neve Campbell and others to pick up the storyline slack. The script comes from Guy Busick, who wrote the previous two Scream movies. Williamson is going from series creator and writer to director with the seventh film.
If all goes well, this seventh installment should push the series past $1 billion at the box office. It originally launched in 1996 with the first film from Wes Craven.
It’s unknown who else would return from previous Scream films. The last two were focused on the “core four” of Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding. It’s also unknown if Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers or not. They’ll have their work cut out for them with a new story and all the turmoil behind the project. We’ll have to see how the film turns out as we get closer to the release date.
This is a developing story and we’ll keep you updated as we get more news.
