After much mystery surrounding the series and a prospective fourth season, fans of Chucky were left with the show’s cancelation on Friday. USA Network and Syfy announced that the series would not return for a fourth season. Creator Don Mancini had been looking to continue the series and pushed fans to lobby for a fourth season. Here’s what he had to say.
“I’m heartbroken over the news that Chucky won’t be coming back for a fourth season, but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have. I’d like to thank UCP/Syfy/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew (the best in the business), and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS come back.”
Chucky was aired on USA and Syfy Network at the same time so both networks could shoulder the costs of the show. It was the last of the larger budget series that came to the Syfy Network. USA Network is back to lower budget procedurals, like the ones that made it famous in the early to mid 2000s.
Chucky, the series, follows the murderous escapades of the notorious killer doll. Chucky crosses paths with archenemies, old allies and new prey, as he seeks to inspire fear and mayhem wherever he goes. After his diabolical plan to invade America’s children’s hospitals was foiled in season one, Chucky now seeks revenge on those he holds responsible: surviving teens Jake (Zackary Arthur), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson) and Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), along with his ex Tiffany, now his sworn enemy.
There’s no word on if there’ll be a wrap up for the story that was coming for the fourth season.
