Back in 2020, Ghost of Tsushima from developers Sucker Punch Productions (Sly Cooper, inFAMOUS) made quite a few gaming headlines. It’s no wonder too. The game is basically an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan (specifically Tsushima Island), but done far better and more respectfully than Ubisoft could ever hope to. At least, in my opinion. Although I do feel vindicated in this from the high-scoring reviews the game got. When Metacritic gives the game a score of 83/100 (for the PS4) and 87/100 (for the PS5), you know that you’ve got a good game on your hands here.
Thus, it’s not surprising to learn that Sucker Punch are making a sequel to the game in the form of the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei. Don’t believe me? Then why not check out the sequel’s announce trailer at this year’s State of Play below.
Ghost of Yōtei: Details
At PlayStation’s State of Play 2024, Sony and Sucker Punch Productions are proud to announce their upcoming sequel to Ghost of Tsushima: Ghost of Yōtei with an announce trailer on YouTube. The trailer not only reveals both cinematic cutscenes and a bit of gameplay, but also when we’ll get to play it for ourself. According to them: this sequel game will make its debut sometime next year in 2025.
Interestingly, this game will also be a PS5 exclusive. In fact, Sucker Punch is explicitly building Ghost of Yōtei entirely from the ground up for the PS5. All taking place on Hokkaido 300 years after the first game, and starring a female protagonist named Atsu to boot. Alas, it will be a while before we can see this game in action. We’ll just have to wait for Sucker Punch and Sony to give us that info later.
Bonus: Still Images
