DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 17 is one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride. Quite befitting really, since this is the finale of the entire anime series. However, that ride is quite cathartic, especially since this is basically the true ending of the story.

DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 17 is the 18th and final episode (you can read my reviews of Ep. 0, Ep. 1, Ep. 2, Ep. 3, Ep. 4, Ep. 5, Ep. 6, Ep. 7, Ep. 8, Ep. 9, Ep. 10, Ep. 11, Ep. 12, Ep. 13, Ep. 14, Ep. 15, and Ep. 16 here) of this science fiction slice-of-life anime series. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Inio Asano (Solanin, Goodnight Punpun). Said anime also originally premiered as a pair of anime films on March 22, 2024, and May 24, 2024. Production +h. (The Orbital Children) is the animation studio behind this anime. Crunchyroll is the company licensing this anime for its worldwide debut.

Tomoyuki Kurokawa, Kazumi Terada, and Kenya Kodama all collectively claim credit for directing DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 17, with Takaaki Suzuki as the writer, and Masahiko Ohkura and Tomoki Kyoda both doing the storyboard. Alas, DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION only just recently ended its run. In fact, DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 17 made its debut a mere five days ago as of this writing. Thus, you will all get the official synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll in place of a spoiler-filled plot summary. You can read that synopsis below:

We return to the world after August 32nd, where Makoto met Kadode’s father. Makoto sees only one way out for Nobuo: he should restart the world once more and travel back to the point 12 years ago, to which the Shift Machine is anchored.

As it turns out, it’s a good thing when Kadode decides to dye her hair.

Since DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 17 is the finale of the anime, this review will also be for the anime as a whole. As you can see though, I’m still giving this anime an overall score of 100/100. Mostly because of the emotional roller coaster ride of a story. Inio Asano is rather famous (or infamous, depending on how you look at it) for those kinds of stories. A lot of it is due to how dark and bleak his stories tend to be, and this finale and anime is this in spades. It’s easily one of the darkest episodes in the whole anime, and then suddenly turns into the most wholesomely cathartic episode by the time it ends. Heck, there’s even a pulse-pounding mecha battle in this episode. If that’s not enough to get you interested in this, I don’t know what will.

Complementing that amazing story is the animation from studio Production +h.. This entire finale features feature-length anime film levels of animation, which is quite fitting since the same studio produced the anime film duology this anime is based off of. Of particular note is that aforementioned mecha battle. It looks more like something right out of a Gundam anime than an Inio Asano story. The fluidity of the battle combined with all the action going on just made it an eye candy of a battle to watch.

Too bad we never found out why Makoto has that burn over their right eye.

Honestly, DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 17 has it all. From high-intensity postapocalyptic action to slice of life fun, it’s got everything anyone could ever want. So much so that you might want something less intense to relax to after that. If you do, then might I suggest Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF, Senpai is an Otokonoko, or My Deer Friend Nokotan? Those should be relaxing enough for you to chill out to.
