After a tumultuous time in which actors were offered the role and declined, Kyle Chandler and DC have agreed to have the Emmy-award-winning actor join the upcoming Lanterns TV series. Deadline was the first with the news. The series comes from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. It follows new recruit John Stewart and veteran Hal Jordan, two intergalactic “cops” drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
The search for John Stewart is ongoing.
THR’s Borys Kit is also reporting that Kyle Chandler’s deal is only for this series and not for future movies or media.
Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. Mundy will serve as showrunner, Lindelof and King are co-writing the series and executive producing. The eight-episode show marks one of the first projects to come out of the new DC Studios. Here’s what DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran had to say about the series.
“John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and Lanterns brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,”
