I know, I know. Do you really want to dust off Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III to play some modes as Michael Myers from Halloween? Well, that sentence should actually make you want to fire up the latest Call of Duty game and hop into a game. Season Six of Call of Duty is The Haunting. The season officially kicked off on September 18th and goes until October 16th. That might seem like a strange time period, why doesn’t the event go all the way until Halloween? Well that’s because Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 comes out on October 25th.

Don’t let that sway you, though; this event is worth playing, especially if you’re into horror movies. Just adding Michael Myers would probably be enough for me to play the game, but then they’re also adding in Sam from Trick ‘r Trick and Art the Clown from Terrifier. Both bundles come out at a later date, but will be during season 6 for people to enjoy. The kicker is that none of this content carries over to Black Ops 6. That’s the real key that’s holding me back from screaming from the rooftops to anyone and everyone that loves Call of Duty to buy this.

The release date of the next COD is always the kicker for The Haunting events. The new game always comes out either right before or right after Halloween, which means that the Halloween event is always in the previous year’s game when interest is at its lowest. That’s a small thing because the player base for Modern Warfare III is still pretty large and energized to play, but it is a thing that makes it a *bit* annoying to plunk down the cash for a Blackcell to get Michael Myers or the COD points for Sam and Art.

So, you’ve got your Michael Myers skin on, what game modes should you play? Well, luckily for us, the kind developers have made plenty of new additions to the game including a new variant of Shipment and new maps, Drive Thru, Mad Cow, and some other Shipment variants. It seems like Shipment is the poster child for Sledgehammer/Infinity Ward Call of Duty games, so we’ve had plenty of new looks at the map over the seasons. The scary version of Shipment is easily my favorite. It adds jump scares (which you can turn off) and a generally spooky aesthetic.

Drive Thru and Mad Cow both have some terrifying elements to them as well. Killer Clowns abound in Drive Thru with a nice map that focuses on the center area for most of the combat. You can hang out the outskirts to get some kills as well. but this one is one of the better maps they’ve added to the game.

Mad Cow is a variant map, but the changes here are pretty great. The entire map has flooded, which slows down the pace on a normally frantic map. That change makes for a completely different gameplay experience to the normal version of the map. When you add in all the cow and slaughterhouse iconography, it makes you feel like you’re playing through something in Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The Haunting Is Too Much Fun For Halloween Season

The new and returning multiplayer game modes they added like Infected, Arcade, Mutation, and Hordepoint all range from decently fun to incredibly fun. Hordepoint is the best of the bunch adding in zombies to already deadly opponents in multiplayer. It’s a concept that I’m surprised they haven’t come back to more with the popularity of Zombies. Adding the two together could be a breakthrough.

As for Warzone, the new Hellspawn map variant of Rebirth Island has some cool new places of interest. The overall aesthetic changes are really cool. The ocean is blood red, the prison has strange writings scrawled on the walls, there are threats around every corner. The coat of paint rejuvenates a map that could be tired to some after playing on it for so long.

Overall, the new additions for The Haunting event across the Call of Duty games are absolutely smashing. The only thing that dampens it is that it doesn’t transfer over to the new game. Michael Myers and his finishing move is a delight to play with and so much fun to see a bunch of his character running around Shipment.
