Josh Brolin has had a rather storied career in acting. Particularly in the comic book film business. Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans might recognize his likeness and voice as the one that graced Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, and even earlier if you count his first cameo in the stinger at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy. Certainly, he lent a certain gravitas to the villain. However, that’s not his only comic book film role. He also played Cable in Deadpool 2, showing that he can play an antihero just as well as he can play a straight villain.
All of that means that Josh Brolin is perfect for the role of Green Lantern in the upcoming Lanterns TV series from DC Studios. Or at least, he would be if he actually wanted the role. Alas, as you can tell by the title, this is most definitely not the case.
Lanterns: Josh Brolin Details
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Josh Brolin will not be playing Green Lantern in the upcoming Lanterns series. Specifically: the Hal Jordan incarnation of the superhero. Not through lack of effort on DC Studio’s part, mind you. Multiple sources confirmed that Brolin received an offer to wear the ring sometime at the end of August 2024. However, as of sometime during the past weekend, Brolin has refused the ring. There are no other details available about this.
This all just raises the question as to who will play Hal Jordan in that upcoming Lanterns series. Alas, we don’t know that either anymore. Heck, we don’t even know when we are going to see this gritty True Detective-like Green Lantern series. All we know is that DC Studios is planning to shoot for this series sometime between January and June 2025 in Atlanta, Georgia; and that’s it. Hopefully, we’ll have some more info about this series at a later date.
Tune back in to THS to find out more about Lanterns and other DC series when we do.
