I can only describe the story of DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13 with one word: mind-blowing. So many secrets are revealed in this episode. Especially the secrets revolving around Ontan’s past that they teased a couple episodes ago. Needless to say, you’ll likely be gaping at the screen the whole time like I was.

Production Cast

Tomoyuki Kurokawa is the director behind DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13, and alas, he is the only member of the production cast we know is behind this specific episode. For the anime as a whole, we do still know that Tomoyuki Kurokawa (PSYCHO-PASS) is the director. Reiko Yoshida (Violet Evergarden) is the writer. Takaaki Suzuki (Violet Evergarden series) did the world setting. Nobutake Ito (INU-OH) is the chief animation director and character designer. Satoshi Takezawa (Digimon Adventure) is the color designer. Mika Nishimura (Typhoon Noruda) is the art director. Satoi Inami is the CG director. Takuma Morooka (Moriarty the Patriot) is the cinematographer. Masayuki Kurosawa (Laid-Back Camp) is the editor. Takeshi Takadera ([Oshi no Ko]) is the sound director. Taro Umebayashi (Space Dandy) is the composer responsible for the music.

DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13: Synopsis

Well, at least he has learned to keep his sneezing under control.

Alas, DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION is an ongoing anime series. In fact, DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13 only just premiered six days ago as of this writing. Thus, you will all get the official synopsis of this episode from Crunchyroll in place of a spoiler-filled plot summary. You can read that synopsis below:

Futaba makes a decision regarding the task assigned to her by SHIP. Early in the morning, Ontan sneaks off somewhere, causing Oba to fear the worst. Together with Makoto, he tries to find Oran before anything worse happens.

DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13: The Good

I suppose you can say that this is a good thing for Futaba to do.

The story of DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13 is why my eyes were glued to the screen the whole time. Because seriously, the revelations just kept coming one after the other. There is some drama with Futaba and the 3D printed gun she got, but it’s mostly overshadowed by all the drama around Ontan. Good lord, the drama is intense. I can’t even reveal anything about it because it very easily crosses into spoiler territory. However, I’m just going to say: Inio Asano writes some very dark stories here.

Complementing that story is the animation by Production +h.. Their animators continue to maintain a very high animation quality for this anime. It isn’t surprising really, considering that they were also the ones animating the original anime film duology this anime is based off of. That animation quality really gets put into focus with the trippier aspects of this episode. Without context: leaping across universes and going into locations with distorted space-time produces some of the most bizarre animation sequences.

DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13: The Bad

This on the other hand could’ve been very bad indeed.

If I had one complaint about DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 13, it’s the way the story is handling Kadode and Ouran’s relationship. In any other story, I feel this would’ve resulted in a romance developing between them. Yes, because they’re both women, their relationship is treated as being somehow…lesser than romance? Or at least, neither of them even remotely consider their relationship to be romantic. I realize that very strong platonic relationships do exist, but…this could’ve been a really good yuri story if they had just gone that route. I’m just disappointed that appears to not be the case here.

And alas, this episode is not the episode for action junkies. There’s not a hint of action in this episode. It’s basically all suspense, drama, and thriller this time. Not even the very dark and bloody military action of the previous episode. If you want high-intensity action scenes, then you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaSolo LevelingKaiju No. 8, and/or The Elusive Samurai.
