Despite its title, Ninja Scroll is one of the most famous samurai period drama (both jidaigeki and chanbara work) anime in history. With Yoshiaki Kawajiri as the director and writer, this anime film made headlines when it made its theatrical debut all the way back in June 5, 1993. In its home nation of Japan though, of course. It wouldn’t be until 1995, two years later, that Manga Entertainment finally brought that anime film to NA shores. To some rather rave reviews, which compared the anime film to classics such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell.

Thus, it’s no surprise that Ninja Scroll is going to get something special for its 30th anniversary. Well, its anniversary is actually somewhere between 29 and 31 depending on which release date you’re using. However, the basic idea is still the same. Heck, it’s why the anime film is going to make its return to theaters for that anniversary. Don’t believe me? Ninja Scroll 30th Anniversary Theatrical Release: Details

This anime film is definitely not for kids.

AMC Networks’ HIDIVE and Iconic Events Releasing are partnering up to re-release Ninja Scroll in theaters for its 30th anniversary. That theatrical screening will happen over a three-day period on September 11, 12, and 15, 2024. Over 600 theaters will screen this anime film in the USA and Canada. To give you an idea though, here’s the full schedule of when each screening will take plate below:

  • Wednesday, September 11 (in Japanese with English Subtitles)
  • Thursday, September 12 (in English Dub)
