Netflix’s Emily in Paris has always been messy while following American Emily (Lily Collins) while she figures out her messy love life while working for a PR firm in Paris. However, when it comes to reconciling everything from Season 3’s HUGE cliffhanger, it all happens very quickly without any real repercussions.

At the end of season 3, Cami calls off her and Gabriel’s engagement while simultaneously telling him she’s pregnant and she knows he’s in love with Emily. Of course, Alfi hears that and gets mad leaving Emily high and dry. On top of it all Mindy was torn between her old bandmate and Nikola.

Emily in Paris: Season 4 Part 1 Fails to Captivate with Drama

In the initial four episodes of Season 4 Part 1 of Emily in Paris, various storylines are neatly resolved, creating a sense of closure. The path seems clear for Emily and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) graciously stepping aside for his friend. Mindy appears fully committed to Nicola (Paul Forman), and even Sylvie’s (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) drama appears to have minimal repercussions. This sense of everything being neatly resolved may seem out of character for a show known for its chaos.

While fashion continues to reign supreme, and the series has embraced French Culture more than ever, I can’t help. but worry about being careful what you wish for. As a viewer, I’m getting my “happy endings”, but at what cost? My biggest issue with this season is the juxtaposition of drama. While everyone seems happy, and Sylvie is standing on business writing an exposé about an old boss sexually harassing women in the workplace, Emily is upset about Gabriel wanting to be a good dad. This character choice is wild to me.

As we know from Emily in Paris season 3 finale, Cami is having Gabriel’s baby. However, theirs is not a Ross and Rachel relationship. Gabriel and Cami (Camille Razat) have very much run their course as a couple. However, they are good friends and will be great parents. While on the surface it seems messy, at this point we have gotten to know these characters over 4 seasons. They can easily make this one big happy family. However, in the lackluster cliffhanger of episode 4, it seems Emily and Cami’s girlfriend have issues with Cami and Gabriel being co-parents. If, by the end of the season, Emily chooses not to be with Gabriel over this it will throw out all the character growth in the show. It feels out of place for the characters and the wrong direction for the series.
