Fans of the Monogatari novels by Nisio Isin will definitely be familiar with KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp-. After all, it’s chronologically the very beginning of how our hero Koyomi Araragi got into his current situation in the first place. Funnily enough though, this anime film has its own interesting backstory. It was originally a trio of anime films, all by studio Shaft (Monogatari, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Nisekoi). This new anime film though is more of a…compilation of all three of those original films. Apparently for all those who don’t want to watch that original trilogy.
Despite that premise though, KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- seems to be wildly popular. Enough that it premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival as part of the Animation Plus Section on July 27, 2024 in NA region. Crunchyroll (along with Sony Pictures Entertainment) is proud to announce the impending theatrical debut of KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- from directors Akiyuki Shinbo and Tatsuya Oishi via that official trailer on YouTube. According to that trailer, this compilation anime film will hit theaters on August 28, 2024. It will be a one-day screening in select theaters across the USA and Canada. It was one fateful evening when Koyomi Araragi encountered her – Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade: Legendary Vampire, Killer of Apparitions, and King of Apparitions. Her legs and arms were cruelly torn apart, her extravagant dress soaked in red; she’s a monster who finds herself in a tragic state, lying in a pool of her own blood. However, Koyomi finds her to be beautiful this way.
Written by NISIOISIN and animated by SHAFT, KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- takes you back to the beginning, the origin of the MONOGATARI story. Originally released as three separate movies, the upcoming film installment summarizes the KIZUMONOGATARI trilogy and can be seen exclusively in theaters.
