We heard about this one a while back, and then there was no real news, but now it looks like Peacock is releasing Hysteria!, a new series that tackles the Satanic Panic of the ’80s. The series will be released on Peacock on Friday, October 18th, 2024. That’s not all, though; USA Network and SYFY will simulcast the first episode on October 18th, with USA Network airing episodes each Friday after that. Here’s a teaser trailer for the series.
Hysteria! is written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane and David Goodman. Here’s a synopsis from Peacock.
“When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported “supernatural activity” triggers a leather-studded witch hunt that leads directly back to them.”
Hysteria! stars Garret Dillahunt, Nolan North, Elijah Richardson, Milly Shapiro, Allison Scagliotti, Jessica Treska, Bruce Campbell, Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezil Curtis, and Nikki Hahn. The premiere episode is directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.
Here’s what Matthew Scott Kane and David Goodman had to say about the series.
“[The series is] about the thrills of being young, rebellious in spirit and aspirational at heart – and the horrors of growing up and realizing that the world you thought you knew has shifted beneath your feet. Our hope is that parents and children (of the appropriate age, of course) can enjoy the chills, the laughs, the music, and the heart of Hysteria! together. Growing up is scary. So is parenting.”
