Normally, you wouldn’t set out to get ghosted. But when you’re a fan of the fan-favorite CBS series Ghosts, that’s exactly what you’re heading to San Diego Comic-Con to do. And considering that those in attendance in Ballroom 20 this year learned more about the upcoming fourth season, it was certainly worth it to get ghosted this time around.
Arriving fresh from their Montreal set, showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman were joined by stars Utkarsh Ambudkar, Rebecca Wisocky, Richie Moriarty, and Román Zaragoza for an amazing panel moderated by Collider’s Perri Nemiroff that shed some light on what we can expect during the exciting next chapter of the spooky sitcom. Right off the bat, the group shared that the opening of Jay’s restaurant will be a big event next season. However, with Captain Isaac Higgintoot (played by Brandon Scott Jones) involved as the financial backer, a number of suggestions at every step of the way may cause friction between the young chef and his silent partner from beyond the grave. And though this isn’t ideal for Ambudkar’s character, the audience is sure to enjoy as hilarity ensues.
Of course, that will be after Isaac returns to the house after whatever Patience had in store for him at the end of season three. When we last saw them, the vengeful ghost he accidentally lost in the dirt many years ago pulled Isaac through the wall of the basement. While the panel wouldn’t spill the beans on the fate of the Continental Army officer, they did reveal that Mary Holland of The Big Door Prize on Apple TV+ and Comedy Bang Bang will play the “feral Puritan ghost.” Plus, she will play a major role in the Halloween special, where her thoughts on the holiday are described as “a bit too much, even for Puritans.”
Happy Haunts
In addition to Holland, veteran actor Dean Norris will be joining the cast for season four as well. The Breaking Bad star will play the father of Rose McIver’s Sam. But he won’t be the only family member that the living members of the household will have to contend with. Jay’s family will also be visiting the B&B during the special Christmas episode. While that sounds like a nice family gathering, his brother will have some friction with Sam, who is revealed to be left out of the family group chat.
Though it seems like there will be a good bit of familiar love in Ghosts season four, there will be some romance too. After Richie Moriarty’s Pete explores his newfound ghost power that allows him to leave the property, he will gain more confidence, which is something that appeals to Alberta (Danielle Pinnock). However, the showrunners assured us that their story would be a slow burn. Meanwhile, Sasappis will find himself another love interest in the form of a ghost that appears on the property in “a really fun way.” Román Zaragoza’s character has grown and changed a lot since we first met him, so with Sass learning what he really wants in a partner, this new relationship should be very interesting.
Finally, the panel announced that Ghosts will be joining forces with the acclaimed interactive horror experience Creep LA to bring to life a haunting 60-minute immersive experience called Creep LA: Ghosts this Halloween season. Scheduled to run from October 4th to 27th; the six shows nightly will only consist of an intimate group of 15 guests each. So if you want to take part, be sure to follow Just Fix It Productions and the CBS social media channels to find out when tickets become available.
