Universal Pictures is working towards a monster movie renaissance. And now, they’ve added new talent to the team: Leah McKendrick.
As reported by Deadline, McKendrick will write and direct a currently Untitled Monster Project for Universal and James Wan’s Atomic Monster. Plot details for the project remain under wraps; all we know so far is that the film will revolve around “a mythical monster.”
McKendrick previously wrote, directed, and starred in the feature Scrambled. The critically-acclaimed comedy originally premiered at SXSW, and is now streaming on Hulu. She will also soon dive into horror, writing the new I Know What You Did Last Summer flick. The modern reboot will star Camila Mendes and Madelyn Cline, with original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. also in talks to reprise their roles from the original film.
Her other upcoming credits include writing Netflix’s holiday comedy Mrs. Claus with Jennifer Garner attached to star, and Summer Lovin’, a Grease prequel.
McKendrick’s upcoming monster flick will be produced by Wan, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing the project for Atomic Monster. Michael Clear and Judson Scott will executive produce.
Stay tuned to THS for more updates on this project as they become available.
