Prime Video will soon bring another romance novel to life. The streamer just ordered a series adaptation titled Every Year After, based on the bestselling book Every Summer After by Carley Fortune.
Every Summer After takes place across six years. The story chronicles the friendship between Sam Florek and Persephone “Percy” Fraser, which ultimately grows into something more. Prime Video describes the upcoming series adaptation as “a fun, sweeping, romantic story that asks the question, what if your first love actually was your soulmate?”
Hart of Dixie and Saint X creator Leila Gerstein will write the adaptation and serve as the series’ showrunner. She will also executive produce alongside the book’s author.
Fortune’s novel spent 14 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list, selling over a million copies to date. “BookTok” apparently played a large role in boosting the novel’s popularity; the hashtag #EverySummerAfter received over 81.4 million views.
“Every Summer After holds a very special place in my heart and in the hearts of readers all over the world who deeply connect with Sam and Percy’s love story,” Fortune said. “I’m excited to partner with Amazon to take their journey even further—beyond the pages of the book, onto the screen, and into the hearts of audiences across the globe.”
The novel’s pickup marks Amazon’s latest venture into adapting romance novels to screen. Prime Video previously found success adapting stories like The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Idea of You.
