To be honest, I thought Funko Fusion would be a cute little game that I might or might not play.
After seeing their panel at San Diego Comic-Con, they’ve made a fan and someone who’s grabbing the game on day one. The panel from 10:10 Games and Funko brought together Jon Burton (CEO & Creative Director For 10:10 Games), Arthur Parsons (Head of Publishing 10:10 Games), Jason Bischoff (VP, Licensing And Business Development Funko), Kellen Goff (Voice Actor For Freddy Fazbear in the game), and Ian Cooper (Creative Director For Monkey Paw Productions). The group kicked off with Jon telling us how the game came to be.
10:10 Games is made up of some new employees that were hired directly and people from Traveler’s Tales, the makers of the original LEGO games, and plenty of other classics. Jason Bischoff said that the genesis of the entire idea was Jon DM’ing him on LinkedIn three years ago to talk about a Funko-based video game.
Jason went on to talk about how excited Funko and 10:10 Games are to tell the stories from 20 different worlds in the game. They also want to introduce the world to Freddy Funko and the villain of the game, Eddie Funko. You’ll also be able to go to the Funko Factory in the game.
Eddie in the game can shapeshift and take over villains from the properties in the games, so there’ll be moments where you’re fighting Skeletor or a Thing, but it’s really Eddie. It was announced that Clancy Brown is voicing Eddie in the game. Speaking of voice actors, Kellen Goff was present for the panel. He voices Freddy Fazbear in the game, and it’s his first time doing the original Freddy. Freddy uses a pizza gun and Foxy uses a pirate cannon in the game.
Finally, the panel brought it full circle with a look at the Jordan Peele movies in the game and a look at Invincible and The Walking Dead levels. Ian Cooper of Monkey Paw Productions said that they actually used scans and assets from Nope to help design the level in the game. Funko Pops of characters from Jordan Peele’s movies were announced, like OJ Haywood from Nope.
The Funko Fusion pop figures in stores will have DLC codes in the boxes that give you in-game items, including a Grail-level exclusive Mecha Freddy playable character.
Robert Kirkman came out to announce that Invincible and The Walking Dead would both be in the game, with TWD characters being pre-order bonuses. The Invincible level in the game is known as a “cameo” level, which is a smaller level that you find as a secret in one of the larger main levels.
Overall, the panel raised by excitement level for Funko Fusion and made me want to play the game on day one. Funko Fusion releases on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Steam on September 13th and on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on November 15th.
