DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 6 is the sixth episode (you can read reviews of Ep. 0, Ep. 1, Ep. 2, Ep. 3, Ep. 4, and Ep. 5 here) of this postapocalyptic science fiction slice-of-life anime series. Said anime is the anime adaptation of the manga of the same name by Inio Asano (Solanin, Goodnight Punpun). Said anime also originally premiered as a pair of anime films on March 22, 2024 and May 24, 2024. Production +h. (The Orbital Children) is the animation studio behind this anime. Crunchyroll is the company licensing this anime for its worldwide debut.

Tomoyuki Kurokawa is the director behind DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 6, and alas, he is the only member of the production cast we know is behind this specific episode. Speaking of the music: the opening theme song is “Shinsekai Yori” (SHINSEKAIより, lit. ’From the New World’) by Ano and Lilas Ikuta. “ZeZeZeZettai Seiiki” also by Ano and Lilas Ikuta is the ending theme song.

How did this childhood flashback go so horribly wrong?

Okay, seriously, there’s no question about it. It’s the story of DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 6 that had me glued to my seat, gripping my keyboard in astonishment at what was happening. Long story short and without spoilers: this episode suddenly turns the cute slice of life into a very dark thriller, full of violence, blood, and death. Seriously, there is suddenly 1000% more death in this episode, to the point where it’s approaching a horror story, all courtesy of Inio Asano. It’s gone from dark chocolate straight into pure cacao at this point.

Complementing that violent thriller of a story is the animation. Production +h. continue to maintain a very high quality of animation in this episode. All anime film levels of quality, which you can see in the detailed animation of the bloody violence. Which does make sense considering that the same studio also made the anime film duology that this anime was adapted from. If you’re going to make an anime out of a pair of anime films, why not go the whole way and give it feature-length anime film levels of animation quality?

Don’t worry, Ontan. We’re just as shocked as you are.

If you’re not a fan of very dark thrillers, then DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 6 probably isn’t for you. Seriously, it’s quite intense. If you want something nice and relaxing to calm down with, I would suggest Astro Note, Senpai is an Otokonoko, and/or the more light-hearted episodes of Black Butler -Public School Arc- and Spice and Wolf: MERCHANT MEETS THE WISE WOLF. Those are relaxing enough to help you calm down from the intensity of this episode, along with perhaps a chilled cup of tea.
