If you love fantasy, folk tales, and Jim Henson, you won’t want to miss this one. Shout! Studios recently digitally restored and remastered The Storyteller, and the complete collection goes on sale in August.
Jim Henson created the TV anthology series The Storyteller in 1987. The series was based on a treatment written by Henson’s eldest daughter Lisa, inspired by her university studies in folklore and mythology. Academy Award-winner Anthony Minghella wrote the episodes, which went on to receive accolades from both the Emmys and the BAFTAs.
The Storyteller features acclaimed actors as well as original creatures and characters from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. John Hurt played the title role, aided by his cynical dog (performed by Henson’s son and the series’ head puppeteer Brian Henson). The episodes include appearances by Miranda Richardson, Sean Bean, Brenda Blethyn, Gabrielle Anwar, Jennifer Saunders, Jane Horrocks, and Jonathan Pryce.
The second iteration of The Storyteller, Greek Myths, focused on ancient Greek tales of gods, heroes, and legends. Stories include Orpheus and Eurydice, Daedalus and Icarus, Perseus and the Gorgon, and Theseus and the Minotaur. The Storyteller: Greek Myths starred Michael Gambon in the title role.
Both installments will be released by Shout! Studios as part of the digitally restored and remastered The Storyteller: The Complete Collection. You can grab your digital copy starting August 6 from your preferred digital entertainment platform.
