We don’t get too many horror-esque movies for kids these days. The days of The Goonies, The Monster Squad, or ET are seemingly long gone. Monster Summer looks to change that though. The new movie stars Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Lethal Weapon), and Lorraine Bracco (Goodfellas, The Sopranos). It’s directed by David Henrie.
Here’s an official synopsis for Monster Summer.
When a mysterious force begins to disrupt their big summer fun, Noah and his friends team up with a retired police detective to embark on a monstrous adventure to save their island.
Written by Cornelius Uliano and Bryan Schulz (The Peanuts Movie), Monster Summer also stars Nora Zehetner (“The Right Stuff”), Noah Cottrell (“The Spiderwick Chronicles), Abby James Witherspoon (Secret Headquarters), Lilah Pate (“Outer Banks”), Julian Lerner (“The Wonder Years”) and Patrick Renna (The Sandlot).
Here’s what director David Henrie had to say about the film.
Some of my fondest memories as a child were watching movies with my parents like The Goonies, ET, Sandlot and Jaws. Where are those kinds of entertaining, worry free, movies for families these days? It’s my hope that this movie can be a Halloween event for families where they’ll laugh, scream and maybe even shed a tear together.
Monster Summer releases in theaters on October 4th, 2024.
