People were expecting much from Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the pirate fantasy adventure manga and anime One Piece by Eiichiro Oda. Fortunately, Netflix very much delivered with this adaptation. Shockingly so when you consider just how unsuccessful live-action adaptations of anime are as a genre. I mean, the fact that 85% of critics over 61 reviews gave the first season a positive score on Rotten Tomatoes, with 95% of audiences over 10,000+ ratings doing the same, should tell you that.

Thus, it’s not so surprising that Netflix is renewing One Piece for a second season. It’s even less surprising that there’s so much hype around it. Now though, we shall add to that hype with some exclusive new details straight from Netflix themselves. Here’s the low-down:

Netflix’s One Piece Season 2: Details

Complete with an old teaser from Eiichiro Oda to boot.

Netflix Tudum is proud to reveal some new details about their upcoming One Piece season 2. Among those details is a confirmation as to what the new season will be about. In particular, they are in fact confirming that Tony Tony Chopper will be part of the story for the new season, along with Dr. Kureha. You can read Netflix’s full statement below:

In ONE PIECE co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens’ previous conversation with Tudum, he revealed that Dr. Kureha will definitely be part of Season 2. “When the Season 2 writers’ room got together, we knew how far we were going to get and that this character Dr. Kureha was going to be a big part of the season.”

Owens is also eager to introduce viewers to some other fan favorites next season, especially since “Oda told everyone we’ll be meeting Chopper in Season 2.” The Straw Hats are also going to be in the Grand Line — “The place that we were talking about all of Season 1, we’re in it now,” said Owens.
