Inside Out 2 kept its footing at the box office this weekend; and lost very little momentum in the first-place spot.

Inside Out 2 Feeling Joy At The Box Office

Inside Out 2

The movie was predictably the number one movie at the box office; bringing in $100 million as per Box Office Mojo. The movie only earned 35% less than the previous weekend. Which in a box office landscape where movies are dropping off considerably week to week; it’s refreshing to see a movie retain its audience interest.

The movie is currently sitting at $724 million worldwide; and is likely going to reach $1 billion in the weeks to come. With a domestic box office total of $355 million; Inside Out 2 also has surpassed Dune: Part Two as the highest-grossing domestic film of the year.

All of this translates to the film being a huge success for Disney and Pixar. Who has focused on original properties in recent years. However with the success of Inside Out 2; it’s likely that Disney will fast track and emphasize development on its other upcoming animated sequels. Most notably on the horizon is Moana 2 and Toy Story 5.

The Bikeriders Are Too Cool For The Box Office

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die kept its footing in the number two spot at the box office.

The Bikeriders

The Bikeriders was the new release this week and it debuted on the higher end of expectations and tracking. As mentioned last week, the movie was tracking for an $8 million to $10 million opening; and it made $10 million. Making it Focus Feature’s strongest debut of the year, ahead of Back To Black ($2.8 million) and Lisa Frankenstein ($3.6 million). This is most likely due to the star power of the film. With Tom Hardy and Austin Butler both being considerable box office draws. Still, the movie has a budget of $40 million, and likely will need to make $60 million to $80 million to be considered profitable. So the movie has a long ways to go to be considered a success.

Rounding out the box office a tie between The Garfield Movie ($3.6 million) and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ($3.6 million).

Will A Quiet Place: Day One Make Some Noise?

The big release this week is A Quiet Place: Day One.

The movie is tracking for a $40 million opening. This is a safe bet considering A Quiet Place Part II opened to $47 million. Mind you that was the first major release after theatres re-opened after the pandemic. With theatre goers more comfortable now, the movie could do greater numbers than that even.

The movie is tracking well with the 13-34 age group, and that could chip away at Inside Out 2. I still think families will keep that movie going strong, so I would expect a second place debut for A Quiet Place: Day One.

As always we’ll find out next week!
