After months of speculation, we finally have confirmation on the future of Kevin Costoner and Yellowstone. On Thursday, June 20, the actor posted a short video on Instagram, confirming he will not return to the series. This confirmation ends months of rumor and guesswork regarding his participation in the second half of Season 5. Although Yellowstone will be ending, two additional series are in development, a prequel 1944 and a sequel 2024. COSTNER ANNOUNCES YELLOWSTONE FUTURE

The news of Kevin Costner not returning for the final episodes of Yellowstone is certainly disappointing. Since the series premiered in 2018, Costner has masterfully portrayed John Dutton, the Dutton family patriarch. With his character now the Governor of Montana, it will be interesting to see how the series addresses his departure. The task of wrapping up a beloved show like Yellowstone without one of its central figures will be a significant challenge for creator Taylor Sheridan. For now, fans must wait for the second half of Season 5, set to premiere on November 10, to see how the story unfolds.

It’s not a huge surprise that Kevin Costner will not be returning to Yellowstone, although many fans held out hope for a different outcome. Costner’s passion project, Horizon, has demanded much of his time, preventing his return to the series. The first two chapters of this film series are set to premiere this year, with Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 currently in development.
