DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 3 continues with the slice of life fun times taking place in the midst of an alien invasion. Or at least, what the Japanese and American governments think is an alien invasion. However, this episode gives us a plotline that’s just a touch more dramatic, and it all has to do with Kiho’s tumultuous love life. You know, the one Oran keeps making fun of her for?

This scene actually appears in this episode, and it’s a weird example of…horror-comedy?

There’s no question about it. It’s the story of DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 3 that’s the best part about it. All thanks to Inio Asano, who created the manga this anime is adapted from. Why, you might ask? Well, it’s that mix of slice of life antics amidst the ongoing alien “menace”, of course. A “menace” that’s mostly caused by humanity’s attempts to destroy the aliens, but not a whole lot of people seem to care here. However, these are mere background events to complement the slice of life…and the romantic drama in this episode. It creates a bizarre yet fascinating contrast between those two sets of events. Like adding two unrelated flavors together, and getting something uniquely tasty out of it.

Of course, complementing that story is the animation. Production +h. continue to do a wonderful job with that animation. At least part of it is due to mimicking Asano’s own art style, which produces an almost whimsical air for the anime. The other part of it is the continued high quality of that animation, on par with feature-length anime films. Which is quite fitting, due to this anime originally seeing release as an anime film in its home nation of Japan.

Now that is the most bored look I’ve ever seen anyone give in an anime.

If you’re looking for an action-packed Michael Bay-esque of an anime, then DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION Ep. 3 isn’t it. In fact, this whole anime series isn’t something for action junkies. At its heart, it’s basically a slice of life sci-fi anime, with just a hint of military fiction to complement it. If you want high-intensity action, then you might want to check out Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, and/or Kaiju No. 8 for that.
