With a little over a month until the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, True Believers are getting more and more excited to finally see the Marc With A Mouth properly team with Weapon X on the big screen. As promotion for the upcoming Marvel Studios production starts to ramp up, fans have seen a number of familiar faces pop up in teasers and trailers alongside stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, one big name who allegedly won’t be joining in on the fun is Taylor Swift.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the widely popular entertainer will not appear in the next major motion picture from the House of Ideas. This report comes after the film released a series of new posters this morning. One of them features the titular heroes wearing friendship bracelets, which has become synonymous with Swift fans and her Eras Tour.
Additionally, a new trailer for the movie from “Free Guy” and “Real Steel” director Shawn Levy was released in honor of Best Friends Day last week. In the latest preview, there’s a shot of a character that appears to be Lady Deadpool, a female variant of Wade Wilson from an alternate Earth. Many believed that Swift could fill the role, but that appears to not be the case.
Anti-Hero
Rumors of Taylor Swift appearing in an X-Men movie have been running rampant since 2015. Many speculated that she would be playing mutant pop star Dazzler in X-Men: Apocalypse. But when that didn’t come to fruition, the rumor mill continued to fuel the fire of a cameo in subsequent productions.
Finally, when Deadpool & Wolverine rolled around, it seemed like that would be the best place for the appearance to actually happen. The actor and his wife Blake Lively have been friends with the singer for years. As for the filmmaker, he made a cameo in the 2021 music video for “All Too Well.” Then this past October, the trio plus Jackman were seen with the singer at a Kansas City Chiefs game to support her partner Travis Kelce.
Despite all the evidence, Levy had the following to say about the rumors in an EW interview from April:
“I regret that I was not quicker to shut it down the first time, so I’m going to default to my very true situation, which is as much as we love each other, the fear of death is so intense in me regarding Ryan and how he desperately wants to avoid talking about all of these proliferating rumors.”
This news may be very disappointing to Swifties and X-Men fanatics. But the old saying “never say never” holds true in this situation. There’s still a chance that it could happen down the line.
Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters on July 26, 2024.
