Spyglass is going all-in on horror movies. They’ve already rejuvenated the Scream franchise, and brought us Thanksgiving, now they’re going forward with a Valentine’s Day-themed horror rom-com called Heart Eyes. Deadline is reporting that the film will star Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding. The film is starting production in New Zealand.
Here’s a bit of a synopsis/logline for the film.
When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes Seattle, a pair of co-workers pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day are mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. Now they must spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.
Josh Ruben is directing the film with a screenplay from Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day), and Michael Kennedy (Freaky, It’s A Wonderful Knife). Landon and Divide/Conquer’s Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks are producing. Spyglass’ Gary Barber and Chris Stone are Executive Producing with Murphy.
Here’s what Josh Ruben had to say about the project.
“My love of horror is rivaled only by my love of romantic comedies. I’m excited as hell to mount my most challenging genre bender to date: a brutal slasher in a nostalgic rom-com universe.”
As for other details, we’ll have to wait and see when the film gets more into production.
Holt has been a rising star in Hollywood lately, she’s starred in projects like Cruel Summer, Totally Killer, Cloak and Dagger, and can be seen in the upcoming film Jingle Bell Heist. Gooding was made a known quantity for his performance in Scream (2022) and Scream VI. He can be seen in the upcoming comedy Y2K.
