More Monster High is on the way. Today the supernatural multimedia franchise revealed plans for a new live-action theatrical film.
The project marks a team up between Mattel Inc. and Universal Pictures. Oscar-winning producer Akiva Goldsman will produce the feature. (Though also a writer, Goldsman is not currently slated to pen the Monster High film.)
The Monster High franchise began with a collection of dolls launched in 2010 based on iconic supernatural creatures. The initial characters included Draculaura (daughter of Dracula), Frankie Stein (daughter of Frankenstein’s monster), Clawdeen Wolf (daughter of the Werewolf), and Cleo de Nile (daughter of the Mummy). Since then their popularity has skyrocketed and expanded across mediums, including a Nickelodeon/Paramount+ TV series, books, movies, and music videos.
“Monster High helps fans discover the great beauty in being true to yourself and celebrates the unique sensibilities at the core of who we are as individuals. We’re proud to partner with Universal Pictures and the brilliant Akiva Goldsman to usher this important message to audiences worldwide,” said Mattel Films President Robbie Brenner.
Mattel recently found huge success bringing another doll to live action film with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The toy company has a number of other features in the works based on some of its iconic products and IP, including Vin Diesel’s Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, J.J. Abrams’ Hot Wheels, Daniel Kaluuya’s Barney, and more.
“I’ve been fascinated by Monster High since my daughters were obsessed with the dolls as kids. I’m thrilled to once again join forces with Robbie Brenner and our friends at Mattel to help bring this iconic property to life,” said Goldsman.
The feature remains in the early development stage, so we don’t have more details just yet. So, check back to THS for more updates on this live-action Monster High project.
