Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is no stranger to big-budget franchises. He’s directed for the MCU and Stranger Things, and it looks like according to Deadline, he’s in line for another Marvel film. The director is in talks for a movie that could possibly be the next Avengers movie.
They’re reporting that Levy has been given the latest script by Michael Waldron, but they don’t know if he’s accepted or declined the opportunity to come aboard. The studio is still planning on meeting with other directors while they wait for a decision from him.
Levy has a busy couple of years ahead of him, undertaking an Avengers film would only add to the schedule that includes the fifth season of Stranger Things and a Star Wars movie. The previous four Avengers films are among the highest grossing films of all time. Joss Whedon directed the first two and Joe and Anthony Russo directed the final two.
The sources around Marvel-land say that this next Avengers film will be the biggest yet. More than 60 MCU characters could reprise their roles, including everyone from Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Simu Liu, Karen Gillan, and more. This one would be different than the first Avengers film, because well, there’s more Avengers this time around. There aren’t any plot details right now and with the departure of Jonathan Majors from the MCU, there’s no real villain to look forward to, or if the film could include multiple antagonists.
Levy would be a great choice among other great directors. He’s known for his big visual style in films like The ADAM Project, Date Night, Real Steel, Free Guy, and more.
