Josh Brolin Joins Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery
The multi-faceted actor Josh Brolin is taking his talents to the upcoming mystery film Wake Up Dead Man. THR was the first with the news of his casting. Rian Johnson is back to write and direct the film. He’ll also produce the film through his company T-Street with producing partner Ram Bergman.
Rian Johnson and Co. have been extremely busy casting for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. They’ve already added Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, and Andrew Scott. The film starts production in the UK later this month.
We don’t have any plot details available, but it’ll be another murder mystery with Blanc at the center of it.
Here’s what Johnson had to say about the new film on social media.
“I love everything about whodunits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
The first film, Knives Out, grossed an impressive $312 million against a $40 million budget. Netflix bought the rights to the series for $450 million and gave us 2022’s Glass Onion. That film was the first Netflix movie to ever play in the US’s three biggest theater chains, AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. It grossed over $15 million in a limited, one-week-only run. There is no word on if Netflix will put this third film into theaters.
Each film in the series has only had one constant with Daniel Craig as the enigmatic Benoit Blanc.
Josh Brolin has been incredibly busy the last couple of years. He’s well-known across multiple generations, to some he’ll be known as Thanos from the Avengers movies, to others it’ll be in Dune, or Sicario. He can currently be seen in the second season of Prime Video’s Outer Range. He’s also currently shooting the movie Weapons from filmmaker Zach Cregger.
