Elle Fanning To Star In Dan Trachtenberg’s Badlands Predator Movie

Want to know a secret? Prey was one of the best movies of 2022. It revitalized the Predator franchise. That movie’s director Dan Trachtenberg is coming back for a sequel called Badlands. Now it appears they’ve found a star for the film in Elle Fanning. The actress from The Great is in talks to star in the film. Prey starred Amber Midthunder and was set in 1719 and saw The Predator take on trappers and a young Comanche woman. That film broke multiple records for streaming on Hulu and was a massive critical success.

Trachtenberg re-teams with Prey writer Patrick Aison for the story for Badlands, and Aison is writing the script. This isn’t the only Predator movie in the pipeline for 20th Century Studios, they have plans for a wider range of movies in that franchise with Trachtenberg leading the creative development.

As for the plot and any details about Elle Fanning’s character, it’s said that the film won’t be in the past like Prey, but in the future. The Predator franchise has gone all over the place with its timeline, so it makes sense to jump around a bit. That’s all we know for now.

Fanning is on a career-best run right now as an actress. She’s recently starred in The Great and earned an Emmy nomination and three Golden Globe nominations for her work on that series. She’s known for starring in the two Maleficent movies for Disney and Super 8.

As for the release strategy, it’s said that it will likely be heading to theaters after the successful releases from other 20th Century Films like The Boogeyman and the upcoming Alien: Romulus.That’s not completely set in stone, as it could still head to Hulu like Prey and other 20th Century Films have.

Prey premiered in Summer 2022 on Hulu and took the world by storm. It made the monster known as the Predator into something menacing and scary after a string of middling sequels to the original 1986 film. It earned some of the best reviews in the history of the franchise that culminated in an Emmy nomination for best TV movie. Since that film, 20th Century has made it a priority for a new film and expanding on the universe with Trachtenberg spearheading it.

There’s also news on Prey 2 being in the works that would return to that films setting and time period. There’s also talk that the star of that film, Amber Midthunder, would return as well. The Predator franchise is a strange one because there have been seven films in total, but the star of each of those films has never returned to do a sequel.
