Earlier this year, Disney+ announced that their latest adaptation of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps would return for a second season. However, the spooky series will not follow the characters we’ve come to know and love in the first season like Isa Briones’s Margot or Ana Yi’s Isabella. Instead, the next chapter in the anthology series will be headlined by David Schwimmer and Ana Ortiz. Now, the production has announced more cast members joining in on the fun.
According to a press release from the House of Mouse, Arjun Athalye (Are You Afraid of the Dark?), Eloise Payet (The End of the Party), Christopher Paul Richards (The Kids Are Alright), Kyra Tantao (ZOMBIES 3) will play Sameer, Hannah, Matty, and Nicole. This quartet of teenagers mysteriously vanished in 1994 and their fates will affect the characters in the present, who are played by Sam McCarthy, Jayden Bartels, Elijah Cooper, Galilea La Salvia, and Francesca Noel.
Additionally, Stony Blyden of American Born Chinese fame will play Trey, the boyfriend of La Salvia’s Frankie. And to round out the announcement, Billions star Sakina Jaffrey will play the mysterious Ramona.
Tales to Give You Goosebumps
While there is currently no release date for Goosebumps season two (although the fall/Halloween season is likely a safe bet), we do know that series creators Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman are returning as executive producers. Hilary Winston, who worked on beloved shows such as Community, Happy Endings, and My Name Is Earl, is also back as the showrunner.
Finally, though we’re anxiously anticipating which fan-favorite books will be adapted this season, we do have the official synopsis to tell us the overarching tale that will unfold on streaming services soon. Here’s the official synopsis of season two from Disney+:
The new story begins with Devin and Cece, fraternal twins adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony. When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Devin, Cece and their friends — Alex, CJ and Frankie — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.
As production continues on this collaboration between Disney Branded Television and Sony Pictures Television, we’ll be sure to keep all of our readers up to date with the latest news, so keep checking THS for more Goosebumps news.
