Wake Up Dead Man is the title of Rian Johnson’s third film in the Knives Out series. Now that we know the title, we’ve all been waiting with bated breath on who is joining the cast. According to Variety, a fan-favorite for Sherlock fans is heading to the film. Andrew Scott (Ripley, Fleabag) is joining the cast alongside the previously announced Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny. Of course, the movie wouldn’t be a Knives Out film, without Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc. Rian Johnson is back to write and direct the film. He’ll also be producing alongside his T-Street partner Ram Bergman, who worked on the first two films.
Wake Up Dead Man is slated to start production very soon and is slotted in for a 2025 release on Netflix. There are no plot details but Johnson and Daniel Craig have teased that it’s “Blanc’s most dangerous cast yet.”
Here’s what Johnson had to say about the new film on social media.
“I love everything about whodunits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”
The first film, Knives Out, grossed an impressive $312 million against a $40 million budget. Netflix bought the rights to the series for $450 million and gave us 2022’s Glass Onion. That film was the first Netflix movie to ever play in the US’s three biggest theater chains, AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. It grossed over $15 million in a limited, one-week-only run. There is no word on if Netflix will put this third film into theaters.
Each film in the series has only had one constant with Daniel Craig as the enigmatic Benoit Blanc. The third film will have an entirely different cast with rumors pointing to Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan also joining the cast, but those are unconfirmed as of this moment.
